‘American Idol’ notes: Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Lee DeWyze

American IdolWho wants to start out some “American Idol” notes with some controversy? It was only a matter of time before Mariah Carey spoke out about the controversial spat with Nicki Minaj … but why did she have to go and do it with Barbara Walters? Considering how Minaj has shown some anger towards the creator of “The View,” this is just more fuel to the fire.

The hot topic here is that in addition to the fight that was captured on video and published on TMZ, rumor has it that Minaj threatened to “shoot” Carey if she had a gun. Carey had called Walters and told her this, though Minaj denied it later. Not only that, but she ripped Walters for never really getting her side of the story before putting the comment on the air.

During this new interview (which is going to air on “20/20” this week), Carey said that she hired more security after the alleged incident, and also had the following to say about it:

“It felt like an unsafe work environment. Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment.”

This time, Walters did reach out to Minaj’s representatives for a comment … and they said that the “Starships” singer has already said everything that she is going to say.

Now, some music – We don’t want to just turn this article into a tabloid. With that in mind, be sure to check out a lovely cover of Cat Stevens’ “Father & Son” courtesy of Lee DeWyze.  Not much explanation needed here; just let the song carry you away.

What do you think about Mariah doing another interview about this incident, and about her doing it with Barbara Walters of all people? If you want to read some more “American Idol” news pertaining to Carrie Underwood and Phillip Phillips, be sure to head on over to the link here.
