‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: Mysterious doctor scoop!
There is going to be a rather interesting addition to “Grey’s Anatomy” season 9 soon; but as expected with a show that is coming to us courtesy of executive producer Shonda Rhimes, there is of course a major twist to go along with it.
According to a new report from E! News, the hit ABC drama series is in the process of casting a male doctor character in his 40s, who will also be around for three episodes later on this year (or, we should actually say, in 2013). However, this is going to be someone that we never actually see onscreen. Think of this more or less as the equivalent of Howard’s mother on “The Big Bang Theory” or Wilson on “Home Improvement.” This is a common technique for comedies to pull to keep people guessing, but it is a little bit more of a mystery as to how it will be used in a drama.
At the moment, some of the theories we are processing for this sort of twist at the moment include potentially giving us a character that someone only speaks to on the phone, or just someone who is really self-conscious. It really wouldn’t make any sense for us to just not see this character for the heck of it, largely because this would take us a little bit out of the already-established world of the show (and we surely do not need that). Let’s just hope that it fulfills a fun purpose, and they snag an actor for the part with a memorable voice.
What do you think about this idea: is it cool, or a little bit too gimmicky for your taste? If you want to watch a sneak peek for Thursday night’s new “Grey’s Anatomy” season 9 episode, you can do so over here.
