When can you actually watch the Outlander season 3 premiere on Starz?
If you’re relatively knew to the premium-cable network, you make, understandably, the assumption that the premiere episode is going to start airing at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, and you have to wait around until then to check that out. However, that is not actually the case! As Starz confirmed on Twitter Friday, once more episodes are going to be available early on the app, starting at 12:00 a.m. Eastern time. In that sense, the season 3 premiere is really just 15 hours away from some of you being able to check it out! (We’re sure that there are some night owls out there who will be very eager to start watching the show the moment the clock strikes midnight, and then maybe also tomorrow, as well. The show holds up well with multiple viewings because there is so much that you will be able to enjoy.)
For those who prefer to watch the show the old-fashioned way, there will be multiple chances to check the show out tomorrow — including in repeats after the premiere. There should also be some chances to check out some season 2 episodes if you so choose. Overall, Starz and its entire family of networks are doing their part in order to turn the Outlander season 3 premiere into as much of an event as humanly possible. We’ve talked about this a few times over as of late, but we get the sense that Starz really wants to set both a show record and potentially a series record with the premiere episode. For the record, the best performance for a single episode of a Starz original is the 2.26 million scored by the Power season 3 premiere. This is the first time for Outlander airing on a Sunday night, and as a result of that there is some unknown territory that we’re going to have a chance to see the show explore in terms of commercial success. Maybe it can topple Power, but even if it doesn’t it doesn’t matter all that much if they post significant subscriber gains. That’s what really matters to them more than ratings.
We anticipate the release schedule with the Starz app to be the same all season as it is for the premiere, given that this is the network’s way of having the best of both worlds. They offer up the watch-when-you-want convenience offered by Netflix, coupled with the appointment viewing that you get from a traditional network. For the record, our reviews are going to be posted at around 9:00 p.m. Eastern or whenever the latest episode airing on Starz is complete. We want you to know when you can come back to see our CarterMatt coverage in full.
