The Flash season 4 spoilers: Earth-2 Harry and an identity crisis

Earth-2 Harry

While there will be multiple different Harrison Wells iterations that turn up over the course of The Flash season 4, Earth-2 Harry will kick things off. He’s probably the most-known version of the character at the moment, and he’s also the only one we’ve met longer than a few seconds that is actually still alive. He spends his days bouncing around between Earth-1 and Earth-2, and maybe he’s even visited Earth-3 now given his daughter Jesse Quick’s new post.

So what is there to do with a guy like Harry? While he’s developed a reputation for being both rather cocky and abrasive, the story for the character this time around could throw him into a very different environment, one where he is vulnerable for a change and starts to question more his existence and what his role is going to be in pushing the world forward.

This is a sentiment that is echoed even more by show executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“He’s a genius, and his daughter is safe, and she’s The Flash on Earth-3, and he’s one of those people who’s realizing that he doesn’t have a life … So season 4 for Harry is really realizing what he’s missing in his life and what it is he needs to become a better, more complete person, and so he’s going to be going on a fairly epic emotional journey this season that is tied to The Thinker’s plan.”

The Thinker, of course, is the new big bad for the fourth season, and is being interpreted already as the smartest and most sinister foe that we’ve had a chance to see over the course of the show’s run. He’s someone whose intelligence surpasses even that of Harry, but we figure that his smarts will still be a key cog in figuring out how to stop him. There could be something still interesting about this, thought, mostly based on the fact that Harry is probably used to always being the smartest guy in any room. There could be something almost debilitating to his sanity that comes with realizing that there are other hyper-intelligent people out there who could surpass him. It could challenge him and make him a better person.

Before any of this happens, though, the first order of business on season 4 is going to be seeing if there is a way to get Barry Allen back from the Speed Force. If we had to guess, Harry could have a role in that given that he’s a creative enough person to come up with ways to get him out without causing chaos for all of Central City. We already had a chance to witness what happens in the event that the Speed Force is left without a speedster residing in it.
