When should Supergirl season 3 reveal Reign costume?

Supergirl season 3 is going to be premiering on The CW come this fall, and the anticipation for the Big Bad Reign is already there! That also goes for getting to see her costume for the first time.

We’d argue that more so on this show than almost any other — except for maybe Project Runway — people really care about what outfits/costumes/designs look like. They spend hours studying them down to the last detail, and they are heavily scrutinized by comic-book fans and TV viewers alike. The struggle here is that you want them to be functional for TV, while also still an homage to the comics. There are many outfits in the comic universe that just wouldn’t work well without a few alterations here and there; people often end up complaining about costumes when they first see them (this is the internet, after all), but start to come around when they actually see them in person. We expect nothing less to happen here.

With Reign, we expect some of the changes to be even more drastic than with other characters in the past. For one, the comic incarnation has silver skin and red hair, and we don’t imagine Odette Annable spending every day being painted in a way to resemble a female Silver Surfer with hair. That would just take too much time. Maybe the red hair is a little more possible.

We anticipate the costume itself being a little different, given that there’s no way anyone wants to see Annable freeze in Vancouver wearing a green bikini top in the middle of December. Our feeling is that the Reign costume will be parallel in some way to the Killer Frost costume on The Flash last year — something that fits the spirit of the character while making a few necessary changes.

So when could it be revealed? Our guess is that it will in the coming weeks before Reign wears it out on the show’s set for the first time. As the folks within the Arrow-verse known at this point, there are armies of people out there who make it their job to sit around and watch the show like hawks looking for little hints as to what various people are up to. The moment that she wears that costume on set, there will probably be a hundred or so pictures mostly online. We’re not saying that we are advocating this in the slightest, but that is the reality of what the situation is.

Hopefully, it’s cool, and hopefully, the internet takes their time before attacking it … though we know the internet and their tendency to not do anything of the sort.
