The Bachelorette spoilers: Bryan Abasolo meets Rachel Lindsay’s family — and it’s awkward

Bryan Abasolo

Monday, The Bachelorette is venturing into something that is actually (insert audible gasp!) a little bit different for the franchise. Typically in past seasons, we’ve seen the leading lady have her family meet the final two at some sort of exotic location in the finale. However, this time around Rachel Linsday is mixing things up — her sister is pregnant and unable to travel, and with her father serving as a judge and not appearing on the show, it just made sense to have it be local. Everyone’s in her hometown of Dallas, and they will all have a chance to meet the parents and impress them/not impressive them and go down in flames. (It seems like this may actually happen with one of them.)

If you look below, you can get a little bit more information on what’s happening with all three guys per ABC — with a heavy dose of snark included.

Peter Kraus – “Peter is the first man to meet Rachel’s family. Making up for lost time, he immediately tells her how he feels about her, and she is excited to introduce him to her family. Peter’s strong feelings for Rachel doesn’t stop him from explaining his reservations about getting married. Will Rachel’s mother appreciate his honesty, or is the end of the road near for this couple?”

The funny thing about the entire story of Peter on the season so far is that he’s hung up on the idea of getting engaged on a reality television show. Basically, he feels how many people out there would if they were dating someone for a few months in life! There is nothing all that shocking about what he’s saying here at all, and yet it is (insert Chris Harrison voice) the MOST DRAMATIC THING EVER.

Eric Bigger – “Eric immediately connects with Rachel’s family because of his humble history. But the fact that he has never been in love before leads them to question whether he is emotionally mature enough to see this relationship through to the end.”

Eric’s story is one of him being in the right place emotionally, and “opening up” — in other words, it’s a very familiar Bachelorette / Bachelor storyline. Eric probably would be a disaster on Bachelor in Paradise or The Bachelor. We just don’t think this franchise is the right venue enough. We do think that he’s mature, but he needs a relationship that feels stable and not where he’s competing with other people.

Bryan Abasolo – “Bryan’s overconfident manner doesn’t earn him points with Rachel’s family, who they think he may be too good to be true and too smooth to be sincere. Can Bryan turn things around in order to get the family’s permission to ask Rachel to marry him?”

We feel like Bryan probably listened to about an hour positive affirmations while staring at himself in the mirror before this date. He seems like one of those guys who tries to cover up nerves with charm and reminders of how awesome he is, and that doesn’t always lead to the best reception. Rachel’s family wants to know that he will care for her, and not necessarily how suave or smooth he can be in any given situation.

The big thing to remember here

Historically, the family visits this late in the game really have little bearing on what happens in the end. We can’t think of a single time where a lead changed their mind about who they were picking because of something that happened with their family. Sure, it’s been a little more frequent that the contestants’ family has had an impact, but that’s back at the top four and there are other choices then. That’s a different situation with the tables turned.

Which one of these family visits sounds the most exciting to you, or are you still somewhat shell-shocked by Dean last week? Share in the comments!
