Poldark season 3 episode 5 spoilers: Will Ross rescue Dwight?

Poldark season 3 episode 5

While some episodes may be quite complicated, the story of Poldark season 3 episode 5 appears to be rather simple: It’s the story of a rescue. Dwight Enys is in trouble in France, and Ross knows that he can do something about it. As a character, he is a man never willing to leave well enough alone. He’s willing to fight tooth and nail to get what he wants, even if that means setting more fires in the process.

Before we progress further, it feels as though the timing is right to share the official synopsis via the BBC.

Poldark season 3 episode 5 synopsis – “While George makes political manoeuvres at home, Ross sails to France to rescue Dwight from the French Revolution.”

There is no problem with the idea of Aidan Turner’s character wanting to rescue Dwight. For one, the two are dear friends; meanwhile, this is not even the first time that he has ventured to France with Dwight on his mind.

Now, the flip side: The issues

There are plenty of them, and the first one is that charity begins at home. The good news for Ross is that he’s settled things when it comes to straying from his wife. He loves Demelza, and is determined to be faithful to her at all costs.

With that, he’s leaving her at home for the second time so that he can go put his life on the line in a foreign country with no guarantee that he will come back in one piece. He may care about Dwight, but he has a wife, children, and others that he cares about deeply in Cornwall. He’s willing to save one life and cost him his own, which is always the Ross Poldark problem. He’s a hero that is often too willing to be the martyr. His actions could very well lead to significant problems at home, especially in terms of others taking an interest in Demelza. Will she resist some of that interest given that her husband is so often gone, and also at times struggles to project his affections onto her?

As for George

Well, the man is terrible. We’ve known that before, but giving him some sort of judicial power is the equivalent of giving a pyromaniac a match and telling him to go have fun. The more influence he has, the worse it is for Ross and his attempts to be financially secure. His maneuvers in the coming weeks should prove troublesome, whatever they end up being.

The preview after the episode

This doesn’t necessarily give too much away beyond what we’ve said already, as Ross will do his part to ensure Dwight’s safety — but he should also keep in mind some of his struggles at home given that Wheal Leisure may be shut down once and for all thanks to George.
