Hawaii Five-0 season 8: How can Grace Park’s Kono be written out?

Hawaii Five 0 Kono

The Hawaii Five-0 season 7 finale left us with a lot of different questions when it comes to our main 4 characters. We had Danny talking about retirement and opening up a restaurant on the island, Steve revealed that he had radiation poisoning and that it’s only going to get worse from here on out, Chin has been offered a job in San Francisco to lead his own task force, and Kono hopped a plane and was heading off to Las Vegas to help another team catch more of the criminals involved in the sex trafficking ring. Update: We now know that Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim are leaving the show.

We know that we have another season coming up in Hawaii Five-0 season 8, but with Grace Park leaving the show we don’t know if we are going to see anymore from her character. We hope for many more seasons of course since this is one of our favorite shows on TV that just gets better and better with each season, but with all this talk at the end of season 7 of characters leaving or characters retiring we’re starting to get a little concerned that the end might be coming sooner than we hope. With that in mind, we’ve been doing a featured series here at CarterMatt on our four main characters: Steve, Danny, Chin and now Kono on what their end game might be if season 8 does end up being the end of the series. We’ve already taken a look at Steve, Danny, and Chin (and you can take a look at those stories over at the link here), but today we’re going to take a look at Kono and how her story might come to a close.

Last season we saw Kono become very emotionally involved in a storyline involving a sex trafficking ring on the island. She always wants to put the bad guys away, but for her this case became very personal as she got to know some of the women that were kidnapped and forced to work in this ring. Even though the the Five-0 team was able to put a stop to it in Hawaii, it was still going on all over America and that was too much for Kono to face. We saw her hopping a plane to head off to Las Vegas to help another task force put an end to it there, but will that be enough for Kono? We don’t think it will be and we could see her hopping from state-to-state helping other teams put an end to the sex trafficking ring until it’s obliterated. As much as we don’t want her to leave the Hawaii Five-0 task force we’ve always liked how ambitious she is and that she sees the bigger picture when it comes to some of these crimes. So when it comes to Kono a great end game for her character, for us it would be traveling around the United States and doing what she can to putting an end to sex trafficking ring.

One of the other cliffhangers was seeing Kono buying a pregnancy test – which is also something that we want to see in her end game. Why does she only have to be a cop? Why can’t she also be a mom and a wife? That’s one of the things that we’ve always really liked about the Kono character is that she’s really multi-faceted and she’s able to balance her job with having a personal life. We’ve seen many other cop shows where being in police enforcement overtakes someone’s life and they are the job, but with Kono it’s not like that and it’s refreshing to see, so for us we want to see her have it. Pushing her career to the limit, focusing on something that she’s very passionate about, finally getting a chance to enjoy her relationship with Adam after everything that he’s gone through and adding a baby to the mix is just the cherry on an already delicious cake.
