Silicon Valley season 5 premiere date hopes; life without TJ Miller
If the show does follow the traditional pattern of the past few seasons, it’s that season 5 will likely film this fall and then premiere on HBO in the spring. This has worked out well for the series so far, so why change that up?
The reality that the show faces for the time being is that there are many other changes coming courtesy of the departure of TJ Miller. Erlich was a big part of the show’s foundation, so it remains unclear if the series will choose to hire someone as a new character or simply work with the ensemble that they already have. In theory, they have enough characters, especially if you were to give increased airtime to someone like a Russ, a Big Head, or a Jian Yang. Miller will be missed, but if we’re being totally honest Erlich didn’t have a whole lot to do ever since the character’s downfall in the third season.
Personally, our hope would to be to see more of Russ on the show now, given that he does have more in common with Erlich than many other characters in terms of arrogance and could help to fill that gap within the cast.
Now, let’s ask a tougher question
Should season 5 be the series’ last? We say that feeling like season 4 was the show’s weakest of the run on HBO, largely because there was not enough evolution with Pied Piper. While seeing the characters as underdogs for three seasons was fun, it does feel like it’s time to see them become more successful and explore challenges in that way. We’ve seen virtually everything that there is to see at this point when it comes to Richard Hendricks and his team clawing to stay alive. Now feels like the right time to give us a new challenge, much in the way that another HBO series in Veep does continue to find ways to change the game for Selina Meyer.
