With Outlander season 3 done, is it time to talk premiere dates?

The good news for all Outlander fans at the moment is clear — season 3 is done filming! That part of the waiting process is over, and with that, we move more towards the next part of the process — premiere dates. When will one be announced?

While there is some logic for Starz to now wait until San Diego Comic-Con in order for the news to first be revealed, we actually don’t think that this is something that the network will do. Instead, they will likely use the convention for something else, whether it be a new trailer or a behind-the-scenes featurette. If we were to bet, our feeling is that a date will come within the next few weeks. That gives the network a good two and a half months, give or take, to promote the show. This makes some sense given that the major broadcast networks already have some of their premiere dates solidified, and we feel like most cable networks will also have their September premieres set up at some point in July.

Season 3 will once more have 13 episodes, though when you consider the total run time it’s probably closer to 15-16 episodes of a standard network show. That’s a lot of great content, and it will feature footage from everywhere from Scotland to South Africa. This season will have more of a global feel than anyone before it.

As of right now, there is potential for the show to launch at any point in the month of September based on the length of Power season 4 before it. The one preference that we’d have is that it premieres before September 24, given that with that night being the Emmys, it may lose a little of its promotional thunder there.

Of course, once something is solidified, it’s something that will be reported on further here at the site.
