Ready for another Outlander season 3 filming milestone? Well, we bring you the following glorious news today that it looks as though production is getting close to starting up in South Africa!
In a post on Twitter, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts confirmed that it is read-thru day, which means effectively that this is a chance for everyone to start to go through their scripts as they get set to film some footage in the country. As he mentions, it’s “Africa hot” there, something that we referenced would be a factor once the team got situated in the country. They are not in Scotland anymore! Our forecasts note that it hit a high of around 34 degrees Celsius in the Cape Town area on Friday, which was around 94 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s without even factoring in things like a heat index or anything else that can make things appear even hotter. Meanwhile, back in Edinburgh it made it to around 11 degrees or so with somewhat-cloudy skies.
Given that much of the reasoning for being in South Africa is for the exterior scenes of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) at sea, the weather probably will be a factor to a certain degree, and that’s without even mentioning some of the various crew members who are also going to be braving / sweating through the elements. Hats go off to all of them! It’s going to be a long few months there, so hopefully everyone stays hydrated.
These little milestones, like filming beginning / ending and arriving to new locations, are in some ways symbolic. We understand that they don’t make time move any faster between now and the premiere airing this fall. Still, they’re important because you’re checking another thing off of the calendar, and that means one less thing between now and the show coming back on Starz. It’s possible we may get a larger Outlander season 3 filming update before production is done in South Africa, but we can’t be too greedy. Given that most book readers know what is going to happen with Jamie and Claire’s Voyager voyage (“voyager voyage” is a rather fun thing to say out loud), what constitutes a big spoiler for the series itself at this point is a visual representation of an action from the book. All parties involved have to exercise care.
To retrieve some other Outlander season 3 updates, we think a good starting point is our feature over here about schedule competition for this coming fall. Dive in there and enjoy!
