‘Outlander’ season 3: Head aboard with new ship photo!

Outlander -We have some news today for you regarding “Outlander” and ships, and on this occasion, we are very much pleased to be speaking about an actual ship! (Yep, we’ve got ‘shipping jokes for days, folks.)

The beautiful picture below was fired shared on Twitter by executive producer Matthew B. Roberts, and that gives you a slight sense of the work that’s being done in South Africa to prepare the ships and the sets for an epic journey for Jamie and Claire on the upcoming third season. Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are not on location filming just yet, but things are being constructed and are moving along rather nicely. We’ve seen a few other photos here and there (we only post those that come from an approved source), and every one that we’ve had a chance to see suggests that the show will continue to go all-out in hopes of making this as authentic a voyage as possible. You want to make these sets feel as distinct and different as you can, while still framing them in such a way that makes some sense for the “Outlander” world.

The third season, fittingly based on the Diana Gabaldon book Voyager, is going to feature Jamie and Claire eventually making a journey by sea all the way to Jamaica. Being that South Africa and their sets have a familiarity with this part of the world already thanks to “Black Sails,” it makes it the ideal place to film these scenes. Work will be going on there until late May / early June, and at that point some people (though far from all of them) will get to take a deep breath before season 4. For some people, working on “Outlander” is an all-year job, but it’s probably hard to feel that exhausted when you’re getting to work on something this good.

As reported first earlier this past week, “Outlander” season 3 is going to premiere on Starz come September.

How excited does this photo make you for the third season? Feel free to sound off now in the attached comments, and head over here in the event you want some further news when it comes to the series — including a recent awards win and how the third-season will premiere will impact the Emmys and more. (Photo: Starz.)
