‘MacGyver’ episode 16 preview: The Colton family returns!
We know that “MacGyver” is a series that does love to dip its toes into nostalgia — heck, the whole show is nostalgia! It’s based on a classic, after all.
Still, the show is somehow finding a way to up the ante with next week’s new episode entitled “Hook,” which serves as an opportunity to celebrate the Colton family, characters who appeared back on the original Richard Dean Anderson version of the show. Lance Gross, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Javicia Leslie and Jermaine Rivers are going to be appearing as the new versions of Billy, Mama, Jesse and Frank Colton, so in the event that you watched and loved the original version of the show, odds are you’ll enjoy it this time around, as well.
Here’s a couple of fun facts about the Coltons — Cuba Gooding Jr. actually played the part of Billy Colton in several episodes of the original series, and they had a special episode all about them in the final season that was meant to be a potential backdoor pilot for a spin-off! It just never ended up materializing into something more. It’s interesting that the show is going to be giving you so many of the family members at once, given that the original never put them all together until that backdoor pilot episode aired.
Synopsis – “While tracking down the dangerous fugitive Aaron Deckard (Anthony DiRocco), Mac and Jack face the notorious Colton family of bounty hunters who already kidnapped their mark. Now, using a hook and a car cable, Mac must extract the criminal from the Colton’s, who are unaware of the deadly situation they’re in. Also, Bozer and Riley try to hack into Jack’s CIA file to find out about his history with Matty.”
The Colton family is far from the first known adversary to appear on the show — after all, we’ve already got Murdoc floating around out there, and we know already that his time on the show is not over. He’ll be turning up at some point a little bit later in the season.
