‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Should Justin Chatwin return as The Ghost?

Doctor Who -

We know that there are some people out there who were probably lukewarm on the “Doctor Who” Christmas Special this year, mostly because it was such a harsh departure from most of the show that we’ve known and loved over the years. Yet, at the same time we’re going to continue to call this special something great. It was silly, uproariously funny at times, and it gave us some wonderful appearances from Justin Chatwin and Charity Wakefield.

What we personally love about “Doctor Who” as a series is that it can do so many different things, and morph and change depending on what’s going on with them. There are times it can be deep and meaningful, but also times in which it can make you roll around with laughter. Even in the midst of the great comedy of this Christmas Special, there was a realization near the end that looking after Grant Gordon a.k.a. The Ghost was a way for The Doctor to channel some of the grief that he was feeling after losing River Song in the Christmas Special prior.

So following this story, could we see The Ghost again? It’s an interesting discussion because in theory, there’s no need to bring him back. He managed to save Manhattan, he has the girl of his dreams now in Lucy Fletcher, and he’s capable of saving the city should any threat come along. To us, what may be slightly more interesting is finding a way for The Doctor to call on him for help. We have to think that there are times in which the world could use a superhero, and it would be fun to get an update on Grant and Lucy’s relationship at the same time.

While we’re not sure it’ll happen in season 10 (we haven’t heard too much in the way of buzz), let’s just circle this as an idea for the show to explore at one point in the future. That’s the sort of thing that we’ve learned about this series over time: There are hundreds of ways that you can find to bring people back.
