‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special: Peter Capaldi, Steven Moffat, more talk ‘The Return of Doctor Mysterio’

Doctor who -

Christmas Day is almost here! This is a time for many different things, from gift-giving to caroling to great British television, including the annual Christmas Special for “Doctor Who.” This time around we are getting a story in “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” that is very different than almost anything that we’ve seen before on the show. It has a superhero component to it, but there are also a wide array of other little things that make it interesting and exciting. There’s an element of romance to it, some mystery, some drama, and of course some of the classic shows twists and turns.

To get everyone all the more prepared for what’s to come, we have some new videos for you below! Here, you can see executive producer Steven Moffat speak out about this special a little bit further, in particular when it comes to discussing how The Doctor is going to have to deal with the fact that there is another hero around in The Ghost (Justin Chatwin). It’s not an experience that he is altogether familiar with, and it creates an interesting dynamic.

Meanwhile, Peter Capaldi details some of the “great fun” that you are going to see in the show this time around, and some of the similarities that it is going to have to some of the Christopher Reeve “Superman” movies. Apparently this is going to be a “lighthearted superhero romp,” which is great news for those out there worried that this was going to be rather serious.

Finally, the last video below comes courtesy of Charity Wakefield, who is playing the special role of investigative reporter Lucy. She is the target of the affections of Grant Gordon, the alter ego of the Ghost, and we figure that there is a lot of fun that is going to come as a result of that.

While we may not be sure that there is a lot in this particular special that necessarily ties into Christmas, we’re okay with that provided that we do get a lot of the same sort of themes of merriment and cheer — based on what we’re seeing right now, that feels likely.
