‘The Good Fight’ trailer: First look at Rose Leslie, cast of ‘Good Wife’ spin-off

Come February, the world of “The Good Wife” as we know it is going to change, and it is all thanks to a new project that is going to be be, judging from the teaser below, “nasty” — “The Good Fight.”

This video is your first official video look at the spin-off, which is taking place a year after the events of the original show and seems to be fronted first and foremost by Christine Baranski’s character of Diane Lockhart. She remains a prominent Chicago attorney, but one in more dire straits after a financial crisis involving her goddaughter Maia (Rose Leslie, “Game of Thrones”) leaves her without much of her savings. She and Maia end up joining a new firm where they will reunite with Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo), also of the original series. Bernadette Peters and Sara Steele are two of the other primary cast members for the new project.

As a whole, we’d consider this to be an excellent teaser, and one that does also make us wonder if removing the show from television to the CBS All Access streaming platform in any way is going to lead to it being edgier or more extreme. We did see an example of this happening with “Big Brother: Over the Top,” which included swearing and some other stuff that we never found on CBS proper before. We don’t think that this particular show would change much since it has a specific core audience, and “Big Brother” live-feed viewers were already used to swearing through that. Still, it’s worth noting.

This news is the latest in a busy few days of headlines concerning this show. Remember, just two days ago we’d heard that the Maia character was going to be a lesbian in a long-term relationship; meanwhile, yesterday it was reported that Carrie Preston would be the latest former “Good Wife” recurring player to be coming back in the same capacity. You can expect something similar coming up for Gary Cole as Kurt.

The first episode of “The Good Fight” will air on CBS proper; from there, it will then move over to the streaming world.
