‘The Walking Dead’ season 7, episode 6 reaction: Alanna Masterson on Tara’s decision

Tara -There were many enormous moments that took place for Tara on Sunday night’s new episode of “The Walking Dead,” but one of the biggest ones clearly came during the closing minutes. In this, the character arrived at Alexandria and promptly learned from Eugene everything that had been going on, including the fate of the person she cares about more than just about anyone in Denise. Obviously, this is not going to be a particularly easy pill for her to swallow, given that this was the woman she was largely fighting for by and large as she was doing everything she could to survive at the new community of Oceanside.

So how does she move forward from this news, and the fact that she didn’t admit that Oceanside existed and it had guns? This is something that Alanna Masterson (who was amazing in this episode) explained a little bit further in a new post-show interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“Tara is obviously super devastated, but I think that Denise, of all people, would’ve told her to protect the innocent. I really believe that Denise would’ve said, “Do the right thing.” So I think that she’s channeling Denise — and even Glenn, really. I’m not just going to give up these innocent people, and their home, and their guns, because as far as she knows, they don’t quite need them. Obviously, what’s happening with the Saviors is horrible, and they do need guns, but I think she is hoping that they’ll find some other ones so that she doesn’t have to give up this group.”

Ultimately, we don’t think having the Oceanside crew’s firearms is really going to make that much of a difference anyway, given that the Saviors still have way more firepower than Alexandria does. The only way in which we are going to see the likes of Rick and company get out of this will be with strategy and careful thought; they are not going to out-gun people with a huge army and also the closest thing to unlimited resources that people can have in this world.
