‘Chicago PD’ interview: Marina Squerciati on season 4 to date, upcoming Burgess story

Marina -Over the coming days / weeks we’re going to continue to share with you some assorted interviews from our time at the One Chicago Day and the massive celebration around it earlier this week. There were a wide array of interviews, a set tour, and some other great stuff we had an opportunity to take part in while in the windy city.

Today, we’re bringing you our interview with Marina Squerciati from the red-carpet party that took place Monday night. Here, we spoke about her role in “Chicago PD” this season, moving on with a new partner after Brian Geraghty’s departure, and also if there are any crossovers / specific stories coming up for her. Based on what she told us, there’s a major focus on Burgess’ story on tonight’s episode.

CarterMatt- The last time that I talked to you, it was around the time of [the backdoor pilot for] ‘Justice’ and a lot’s happened in between Roman leaving and Burgess working with new people. What’s that process [of moving] forward like?

Marina Squerciati – It’s an adjustment. I’ve got a new partner [Li Jun Li], and it’s interesting — I’m a little shy when I first meet people, so it’s a little like art imitating life. We first get along as partners, but then over time we start becoming friends.

Is it exciting for you to play with so many shifting dynamics, and with so many different partners?

I’m kind of nervous that I’m like the seed of death (laughs). I feel like if someone comes [and works with me], I’m like ‘I don’t know how long you’ll be here.’

What’s it been like working with Jon [Seda], and then having him go off to work on ‘Justice’? I mean, he’s definitely still part of the family, but you don’t see him as much.

He’s still part of the family, but it is pretty sad. He’s the rock of the show. That’s hard to lose. We have a great cast and we’ll soldier forward, but it’s kind of like losing our fourth wheel and we’re moving along with [only three]. We’ll find our way.

Is there anything coming up for you on the crossover front?

I don’t know what I did to Dick Wolf (jokingly laughs), but no crossovers for me. My role’s been ramping up on ‘PD,’ so that’s been taking all of my energy.

What can you say about that? After seeing so much of you at the end last season it’s been a little quieter so far.

It has been lighter, but at the end of [tonight’s] episode you’ll see Burgess make a move that you wouldn’t expect from her. I think that will invigorate the fans into her storyline.

Is that something that will carry over into some other episodes, as well?

100%.
