‘America’s Got Talent’ rankings: Grace VanderWaal, Malevo, Linkin’ Bridge lead entering live show #3
On Tuesday night, “America’s Got Talent” is finally returning after a two-week delay. Commence the celebration! What this also means is that it is an opportunity to see the final batch of acts who are vying to enter the semifinals. Given that they have all had several more weeks to prepare than anyone else, in theory we’re expecting many of them to be great. Still, we figure there’ll probably be a disappoint or two — it’s inevitable at this stage.
Since we’ve already shared the full lineup in prior articles before today, we figured we’d do something a little bit different and present rankings for everyone entering the show! Based on talent, past voting history, and show edit so far, these are the acts who we feel are the most and least-likely to advance.
12. Alla & Daniel – They’re cute, they’ll probably get praise from the judges, but they have a very tiny chance of moving on. Ballroom dancing duos have made it further than the quarterfinals before, but on this season we just don’t see them bringing anything revolutionary enough to the table.
11. Vello Vaher – If this was “CarterMatt’s Got Talent,” we’d probably put Vello through since he’s more than just an acrobat; he’s a full-fledged circus entertainer, and the sort of guy who probably has a million crazy stories who we’d love to chat with. We just think with Sofie Dossi in the next round, we’re probably not getting another contortionist.
10. Ronee Martin – Ronee’s a really great singer, no doubt; the reality here, though, is that she hasn’t gotten the air time of some of the younger singers, and at this point the competition seems to be favoring them.
9. Julia Scotti – This hasn’t really been a great season for adult comics on “America’s Got Talent” so far, though we do think that Julia is by far the funniest one on the entire season. Why so low? Well, much of her humor is either racy or self-deprecating, and our fear is that it won’t resonate with more of the conservative crowd running. Personally, she’s in our top five performing.
8. Blake Vogt – If there is any lower ranking that we probably will regret come Wednesday, this is it. Our only fear with Blake is screen time and memorability compared to other magic acts this season. We do know, though, that all it takes is one big performance to capture America’s attention, and magic can do that.
7. Edgar – We’re really torn on this one, given that there is some talent here, but there are a lot of singing acts in here and sooner or later, you think that they could cancel each other out in here eventually. For now, we have them advancing because of past successes by family bands on the show.
6. Kadan Bart Rockett – We’re most giving Kadan the advantage over Blake because kid acts often do have a tendency to do very well on the show. While many of his tricks are ones we’ve seen before in other forms, he does them with enough enthusiasm and humor that they stand out from the pack.
5. The Passing Zone – It’s risky ranking a juggling act high, since one mistake can send you right over the edge to getting no votes. Still, these guys have been here before and know what they’re doing. Also, they’re funny, dangerous, and completely different from Viktor Kee, who is already through.
4. Linkin’ Bridge – In a way, we’d certainly understand if there were some upset over us having so many singers at the top of the rankings. Yet, this is what America often votes for, and this round just so happens to have three very different singing acts who have been very popular so far this season. These four guys stand out because they do something different (and completely nail it).
3. Brian Justin Crum – Even though he’s yet to receive a Golden Buzzer, Brian’s been incredibly solid the entire season to date and probably will nail the vocal here. He’s got so much experience that it’s hard to imagine a scenario this goes badly for him.
2. Malevo – If you’re looking for a true sleeper act for the season, these guys are probably it given that they’re so high-energy, they do many different things, and they’re a nice alternative to all of the singers / magicians that are considered for the most part the frontrunners right now.
1. Grace VanderWaal – Other than maybe Tape Face, Grace has had more people talking than anyone all season long. She is the one probably with the most pressure because of that, but momentum alone should carry her so long as she brings a song that is at least half as strong as what she did the first time.
