‘Longmire’ season 5: Lou Diamond Phillips shares first look

LongmireLongmire” season 5 may not premiere on Netflix until September 23, but at long last some tiny details are starting to come out!

Today, these details come in the form of a new interview with Lou Diamond Phillips on “Access Hollywood Live,” where there was the smallest of sneak peeks from the new season as Henry Standing Bear and Mathias look to come to some sort of agreement. Rather than go to jail, it certainly feels like Henry could be of use to the tribal police, and use his power in a way that is, to use a Dungeons & Dragons analogy, a little less of the Chaotic Good variety. Whether or not he takes on that role could be a pivotal cog in everything that happens from there.

In addition to the sneak preview (which you can watch by clicking on the link in the paragraph above), the actor described the central conflict for Henry for this upcoming season:

“The last we saw, Henry was being carted off to jail by Zahn McClarnon, who plays Mathias. In that scene, you will see what happens — if they cut a deal. Henry will be continuing his dual role as Hector, the sort-of vigilante, justice-bringer for the reservation, which will put him at odds with Walt Longmire, his best friend.”

This conflict between Henry and Walt remains one of the most fascinating facets of where we are at present with this show, given that each in their own mind is doing something that they consider to be the right thing to do. Where they differ is in the methods, and what they are willing to do to preserve justice. Does Walt respect the end result enough to ignore the means, or do the means negate whatever happens on the other side? These are philosophical questions that the show can explore and remain perpetually intriguing all the while.
