‘The Fosters’ season 4 spoilers: First look at ‘harrowing’ premiere

The Fosters -The fourth season of “The Fosters” will be coming to Freeform on Monday, June 20, and they are not exactly bringing a quiet, intimate story to the table to start things off. Instead, this first episode may be one of the most dramatic and dangerous of the show’s entire run.

If you have not heard any of the details just yet, the story of the premiere revolves around a decision by Nick to bring a gun to school after seeing Mariana with Mat. He is understandably heartbroken, but he chooses to channel this pain in the most terrifying way possible. You can see the first photo of Stef trying to handle the attack from the outside above via TV Guide; meanwhile, executive producer Joanna Johnson detailed further what it was like putting together both this episode and the one that comes after it:

“It’s really pretty harrowing … It’s something that’s happening so much it’s almost becoming normal. It almost seems like a weekly occurrence that someone is taking a gun to school. We wanted to explore what the impact of this has on our schools and has on our kids.

“The first two episodes of the season a different look and a different feel. We’re trying to push the envelope of the vibe of our show. It’s very intense and dramatic and I’m really proud of these episodes.”

While “The Fosters” has definitely given us devastating stories before, this is obviously going to be different for a number of different reasons. What’s the biggest one? It’s just the horrible relevance of it all and the fact that similar incidents just continue to occur.
