‘Chicago PD’ season 3, episode 21 preview: Burgess front and center for ‘Chicago Justice’ backdoor pilot
Over the course of the past several weeks, you have certainly heard quite a bit of information regarding the prospective “Chicago Justice” series that is being launched on NBC for the 2016-17 season. While it has not been officially given the green light as of yet, you do have to assume that it’s coming. This franchise has a whole lot of steam behind it already, and next week’s “Chicago PD” episode is going to set the events in motion for this spin-off to happen.
Aside from launching a new show, this episode also plans to tell a powerful story in its own right that puts the character of Burgess front and center. The synopsis below gives you all of the basic plot information that you could possibly want in advance:
“After a hooded man open fires on their patrol car, Roman (Brian Geraghty) is left wounded and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) takes off after the shooter, briefly losing sight of him, and shoots when she relocates him turning in her direction with a glimmer of silver in his hand. No gun has been found at the crime scene and the shooter is identified as a 17-year-old honor student who will likely never walk again due to his injuries. Protests begin as the public views the case as another incidence of a police officer shooting an unarmed African American teenager. Assistant State Attorney Peter Stone (guest star Philip Winchester), the same man who sent Voight (Jason Beghe) to prison, has been assigned to help defend Burgess and conduct his own investigation under the supervision of State Attorney Mark Jefferies (guest star Carl Weathers). Stone and his team need to collect enough evidence to indict the teen and clear Burgess, but must tread with caution on this high profile case as tensions run high.”
Rest assured that this won’t be the only coverage that we have of “Justice” over the coming days. We spoke to Squerciati earlier today about this episode, and we’ll have that interview up early next week. That should give you some further insight as to where Burgess’ head was at in this installment.

Carl Weathers looks great and I loved the player. Glad to see the guy on a new show even if it’s a rip off of law and order

It’s not really a rip off considering dick wolf created law and order and all the Chicago shows. It would be like calling SVU or criminal intent law and order rip offs. I’d more call this new show another spinoff. NBC should be call the Dick Wolf network. This will be his 8th show in total and his 5th airing at the same time. The player was weak. But Winchester was great but on the Cinemax series strike back with Sulivan Stapleton from another current NBC show blind spot.
