‘American Idol’ series finale spoilers: Phillip Phillips could return, after all
When the announcement was first made about the performers for the “American Idol” series finale, every single winner from the show was on the list with one clear exception: Phillip Phillips. The season 11 champ is ironically the only past winner since arguably Kris Allen in season 8 to have a big hit on pop radio with “Home,” but ironically he was for some reason off the roster.
What was the reason for that? You could certainly look at his rocky relationship with 19 Entertainment as a key cog in it, but in the end, it seems to have turned out that this speculation was all for moot. After all, reigning champion Nick Fradiani told Variety at the iHeartRadio Music Awards last night that he, Phillip, Lee DeWyze, David Cook, and Allen are all going to be involved in some sort of tribute to the late, great David Bowie.
It’s nice to have Phillip back, and we do ultimately think that by and large, the show is doing a tremendous job getting as many great performers back as possible before the show comes to a close. We know that Kelly Clarkson may have already taped something, and there are going to be so many winners and past alumni for the show in attendance. It’s going to be emotional, but at the same time we do still know that a winner for the season is going to be crowned somewhere in there. For now, it looks like La’Porsha Renae and Trent Harmon are the two clear frontrunners.
Stay tuned, as we’ll have more on the big finale soon…
