‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 spoilers: Gwendoline Christie hints at larger Brienne arc
For those of you out there (and we know there are many of you) hoping to see more of Brienne on “Game of Thrones” season 6, you’re in luck. Based on what we’re hearing now from series star Gwendoline Christie, her upcoming plot is going to be more than just her meandering about with Pod. She did have one huge moment in the finale courtesy of killing Stannis Baratheon, but it was a brief one … and the fact that we didn’t see the body of course has made some wonder whether or not he is actually dead.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Christie promised that this will be a big year for her character coming up:
“After season 5, people would come up on the street moaning about why wasn’t Brienne wasn’t doing more … I’d say, ‘I’m terribly sorry, I’m not really in charge of that.’ I got the scripts for season 6 and I thought the story was so fantastic. It’s really exciting to see Brienne burst forth again.”
In the end, we consider this yet another reminder of the somewhat-cyclical nature of this show. You turn up and play a character for a handful of episodes, but at the same time you have to also prepare for the idea that there will be another handful where you are really not doing a whole lot. For Christie, she’s in a lucky position in that even when she’s not doing a lot, she gets a chance to do something other things that are truly awesome and then some. For example, just check out “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” if you are one of the few who hasn’t seen it yet.
