‘NCIS’ season 13, episode 19 preview: Robert Wagner returns in 301st episode
Tonight, “NCIS” is airing an emotional story that will be the 300th installment on the air, but one of the things that you do have to remember here is that there is still plenty of story still to tell this year. There are six more episodes in season 13, and these six are going to be the final ones for Michael Weatherly as a regular cast member.
With that, expect to see a few appearances from some people who have been important to the Tony DiNozzo character over time. This is why we’re going to be seeing none other than Robert Wagner on the next installment entitled “Reasonable Doubts.” The synopsis below offers up some other details as to what you can expect:
“The NCIS team must ascertain who is lying, the wife or the mistress, after the women accuse each other of murdering a Navy Public Affairs officer. Also, Anthony DiNozzo, Sr. (Robert Wagner) helps a homeless woman who believes he is her father.”
We’re going to get some more news when it comes to this episode moving into the future, but for now all we’re hoping for based on this alone is that we get a worthy send-off to a character who is one of the show’s best. Maybe there will be some more returning characters in the coming episodes, and if not, we do want to at least get something that truly recognizes the journey that the character has been on ever since the beginning of the series.

The only small hope I have is that they won’t write Tony as an idiot and make him seem like some undedicated screw up. They’ve already replaced him with McGee as Gibbs go to guy and I fear they’ll turn Tony into a petulant child when Senior makes his appearance so super Gibbs can work his usual magic and fix Tony and Senior again. I know with the all hero Gibbs all the time agenda of the current show runner that we won’t get to see Tony involved in any action, exciting scenes, or heroics but it would be nice if they could sacrifice another Gibbs focused episode and maybe dedicate one entire episode to Tony that is not insulting. It’s probably way too much to ask.

Here, here!!! I was beginning to think I was one of the minority, feeling like this about the scripts that DiNozzo has been involved in recently. They’ve been awful and it’s like they gave up on him 2 seasons ago. Did he have a falling out with Gibbs (Mark Harmon) because he’s certainly been frozen out when it comes to interesting or action packed scripts. Super McGee has practically taken over as senior field agent, basically telling Tony he’s rubbish, as he trots past with his nose in the air. Don’t get me started on Bishop, but at least she doesn’t call him ‘dead weight’ like the beloved Ziva did before she left. Time for Michael Weatherly to have his own show and I think enough people will be jumping ship with him, that should remind NCIS to look after those who are loyal to them! Aside from us DiNozzo fans, because we’ve long since given up!

I don’t know why the current powers stopped giving Tony any good stories or started pushing McGee forward as Gibbs’ most trusted agent but I too suspect that there was a falling out. The diminishment of Weatherly’s character is unprecedented and blatant. No other character has been treated with such disdain and Tony was originally a really important part of the team. The current powers obviously dislike Weatherly and couldn’t be bothered to care about his fans either. It’s really sad but I’m glad Weatherly is leaving. It is quite apparent that he was to get no more centric stories or character flattery.
