‘Saturday Night Live’ video: See cut for time Melissa McCarthy ‘Supermarket Sweep’ parody

SNL -Remember “Supermarket Sweep”? This may remain to this day one of our favorite game shows from the 1990’s … and we’re really thrilled to see that at least someone who writes for “Saturday Night Live” feels the same way.

The video below was egregiously cut for time, and it features Melissa McCarthy playing a contestant of a similar game show entitled “Supermarket Spree.” From here, we have what is a pretty brilliant parody of the show, whose objective is mostly to find as many big-money grocery items as you possibly can in a short amount of time. Melissa basically does here what so many other peopl probably wish they could have done on the show, taking out full sides of beef and giant fish from behind the butcher counter before then going for a deli slicer, a cash register, and also apparently the socks of her fellow competitor (Vanessa Bayer, whose character is actually rather terrible).

We like how there is a parody here of some of the great things that were featured on the show, including the giant inflatable objects with prizes on them and also the really tacky shirts that all of the contestants were forced to wear.

Who knows? Maybe if you didn’t love “Supermarket Sweep” you may find this sketch terrible, but as someone who grew up watching the show this may be our favorite cut-for-time piece that we’ve ever seen on the show. We’d take this over that whole test audience bit with McCarthy vomiting any day of the week.
