‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 1 premiere date: When Helen George, cast will return after Christmas

Patsy -Tomorrow marks the season 5 Christmas Special for “Call the Midwife,” and this is a pretty fantastic cause for celebration! You’ll get to see many beloved characters again, and have a chance to see the story that is in some ways sweet, but in other ways heart-wrenching. That is just the way this show happens to work.

As for when the show will be returning after that, there is a firm answer we can (thankfully) give you: January 17. This is about in line with when the show traditionally premieres, and there are once again going to be eight episodes coming for Helen George, Charlotte Ritchie, and the rest of the cast. As for what sort of stories you can expect to see … well, you’re going to be waiting a while to get some answers on that. The BBC likes to be a little cagey sometimes.

One thing that will be interesting to see is if this series can keep its incredible momentum. Despite not being a smash hit internationally like “Downton Abbey,” this show has still figured out unique ways to be a ratings smash in its own right. It has averaged more than 10 million viewers for several seasons, and it will be interesting to see if it can keep that up. Even if the show matched this amount of viewers in America (where there is over four times as many people), it would still be considered a solid hit.

Stay tuned; we plan on having even more news on the rest of season 5 throughout the weeks ahead!
