NBC’s ‘The Voice’ favorite Jordan Smith on getting #1 iTunes spot over Adele
Typically, getting the #1 spot on the iTunes singles chart is something that happens several times a season on “The Voice.” This time around, however, it is a little more difficult thanks to a titan of the music industry in Adele. “Hello” is one of the biggest monster songs of the past several years, and until Jordan Smith came around with his cover of “Somebody to Love,” it was an immovable object.
So with that in mind, isn’t it far to say that he was both overjoyed and a little bit shocked to see the song all the way up at #1? Based on what he had to say to People Magazine, you can certainly say so:
“I was actually on the red carpet doing press after the show. We were all checking the charts anyway just to see how everybody was doing … I opened my phone and saw it and I almost was moved to tears. It was so incredible!”
This has to be a super-cool honor for Jordan, though at the same time it does help it to be even more obvious just what is going to happen the rest of the way this season. Jordan is the clear frontrunner to win the title, and unless something happens where he ends up getting a bad song choice or forgets his lyrics, he’s almost certain to win. Jeffery Austin was at one point his biggest competition, but he still needed the #VoiceSave in order to make it to the final stage of the competition.
