‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9: Mayim Bialik reacts to big Sheldon decision

If you were feeling a little bit emotional at the end of Thursday night’s new episode of “The Big Bang Theory,” we can assure you right now that you are far from the only person who is. Even the actress in the role in Mayim Bialik had a hard time filming it.

In a new blog post, Bialik recounted what it was like for her filming the scene in which Sheldon, after hearing Amy’s confession of wanting to get back with him, proclaims that he doesn’t want to get his heart broken again and that they are better off being friends. We already made our frustration with the story clear (mostly from the standpoint of Sheldon winning back Amy’s love), but it was fascinating to learn just how much Mayim personally put into the performance:

“I don’t know that it is ever easy to sum up what it is like to perform a scene like this as an actor. What I can tell you is that the reason that Amy looks so sad when Sheldon breaks her heart is that I felt sad … I acted heartbroken because I felt it very deeply. I am not going to tell you what will happen next but I will tell you that when I filmed the episode that you just watched, I had no idea what was going to happen in the next episode, and that not-knowing-about-the-future was part of my process as well.”

Bialik writes this knowing that CBS and the show’s producers have already announced that there is an upcoming episode this year when Sheldon and Amy will consummate their relationship. In other words, things are going to turn around; however, and as Mayim states, she had no knowledge of this at the time.
