‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: Will Ian Somerhalder’s Damon change his stripes?

DamonThe Vampire Diaries” has shown many sides of Damon Salvatore over the years, but in the past few installments we’ve particularly seen one who takes no prisoners, and does almost anything and everything that he wants with one goal in mind: Making sure that nobody stands in his way. He’s been a little brash so far and a little violence, but we have a feeling that things are going to get worse for him long before they get better.

With that in mind, we bring to you now some of the first details of the upcoming fifth episode of the season entitled “Live Through This,” which is going to be airing early next month following the next new episode. Based on the synopsis below, something happens that causes Ian Somerhalder’s character to realize that he may not be living the right way:

“After realizing the downward spiral he was on, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) decides he’s going to turn over a new leaf and that his actions moving forward will do right by Elena. Lily (guest star Annie Wersching) prepares for the arrival of a special figure from her past, while Enzo (Michael Malarkey) stands by not sure what to expect. Elsewhere, at Caroline’s (Candice King) urging, Stefan (Paul Wesley) comes face-to-face with Valerie (guest star Elizabeth Blackmore) and learns some upsetting details about her past, while Enzo and Bonnie (Kat Graham) find themselves at odds when they’re forced to fend off a violent threat. Finally, when Bonnie learns some disturbing information involving the Phoenix stone, she is forced to confront Alaric (Matt Davis).”

By the end of this episode, we certainly expect a few more surprises, and with Damon the real question is this: How long could he keep up a good-guy act? Our guess is “probably not long” given what we’ve seen from him over time.
