‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17, episode 7 preview: Mariska Hargitay, cast take on ‘Patrimonial Burden’
It has been rather nice for “Law & Order: SVU” to give us six episodes so early in the fall TV season. Unfortunately, the downside of getting so many installments so early is that it means a hiatus sooner rather than later, and specifically, you are not going to see one next week.
Instead, the episode “Patrimonial Burden” will be heading to the screen on November 4, and in case you have not heard much about this story, it is the one that is loosely based on the reality TV headlines of Josh Duggar and “19 Kids and Counting.” Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, and the rest of the cast are going to have their work cut out for them trying to figuring out what is happening within the world of a popular TV family. Take a look at the synopsis below:
“The SVU investigates an unraveling web of secrets when the virtuous 13 year-old daughter of a famous reality TV family discovers she’s pregnant.”
The word “virtuous” is especially important to us here, since it suggests that the show will be exploring a potentially religious angle much like there was in the middle of the Duggar family. We’re sure that this case is going to be controversial, but at the same time this is something that “SVU” has to be really familiar with at this point. After all, just look at the intense reaction there was to last week’s episode, which looked at race relations in a way that was bold and divided many. This show is meant to compel you to have many discussions, along with bringing to light important issues.

It looks like Amanda will be in this episode. Since Kelli already had her baby, maybe the Amanda Rollins character will miss a lot less time than I thought. That would be good for the show. Will this be the episode that gets SVU into Third place for one night? We’ll wait and see.
