‘Gotham’ season 2, episode 3 video: A slice of Alfred – Lee Thompkins fan service

While not every “Gotham” viewer is a fan of the comic books, some are, and those will remember that within the source material, there is a relationship between Leslie Thompkins and Alfred, to the point where she is one of the people credited with helping to raise a young Bruce Wayne.

Are we moving in that direction on the TV show anytime soon? It is hard to particularly imagine that at the moment, mostly for a fairly simple reason: Lee is in a relationship with Jim Gordon, and while there are issues here and there, she hasn’t left him yet and they’ve been through quite a bit. If that does not inspire at least some confidence in their future, what will?

The scene below, which features Bruce Wayne, Lee, and Alfred at a magic-themed benefit for the children’s hospital, serves three purposes in our mind.

1. It is the first meeting between Lee and Bruce, and a chance to get Lee to pass along a message to Gordon.

2. It serves as a nice way to connect Lee with some other characters on the show, which is mostly nice in that to this date, her social circle has been somewhat limited.

3. For those who are aware of the comic history between Alfred and Lee, this is a nice little bit of fan service to see them together, and to see Alfred try to start up an awkward conversation.

We presume that there will be plenty of drama at some point in this episode, as well, courtesy of the character of Jerome. He is still out to impart some insanity on the city, and the biggest standoff between him and Jim is right around the corner.
