‘Girl Meets World’ season 2, episode 16 preview: More on ‘Girl Meets Cory and Topanga’

In some ways, it feels almost like every episode of “Girl Meets World” right now is becoming an event for one reason or another. On Friday night’s new episode entitled “Girl Meets Cory and Topanga,” much of that “event” is going to be seeing Riley and Maya hop in what is more or less the show’s version of a time machine.

The original story of this episode is fairly simple: Riley Matthews is going to feel insignificant and like she is never going to amount to anything; both of her parents are doing great things, so how is she going to measure up to them? This is where imagination enters the picture, as she and Maya start to imagine more of what the early days were like for her father Cory and Topanga.

Basically, if there was ever a love letter to fans of “Boy Meets World,” this is it. We’re going to see more or less Riley and Maya transposed into scenes from the classic show as they watch Riley’s eventual parents start to spend time together. You can see a sneak peek of one scene in particular over at TVLine, and it’s really quite fun. Also, Maya seems to think that young Cory is especially cute.

The whole point of this episode, at least from our vantage point, is for Riley to start to understand that she has nothing to be intimidated by, and she still has a tremendous amount of time in her life to find herself. Sometimes, she needs to just give herself a little bit of a break and enjoy being a kid.
