‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9: Is there a wedding in the premiere?
At the beginning of the season 9 premiere of “The Big Bang Theory,” you know that the series is going to pick up in many ways where we left off with Leonard and Penny: They are on the way to get married in Las Vegas to prove to their friends that they will go through with it.
Unfortunately, an admission from Leonard may change everything: That while he was away aboard a research ship, he kissed someone else. If she and him want to tie the knot, she is going to have to decide, and quickly, whether or not she should go through with it.
Surprisingly, the producers of the show decided to reveal this information in advance, and even more surprisingly, they are actually going through with the ceremony. Speaking to TVLine, show executive producer Steven Molaro confirmed that the wedding will happen! However, he also added that there are going to be many more stories that come following this ceremony, and dealing with the issue of the “kiss” is going to be one of them.
Molaro specifically explained to the website why the time was right for the two to say “I do”:
“We’re nine years in and we want to keep things moving forward, as well as exciting and scary and fun … And I think this a great way to do it. Penny has had commitment issues for years and years now, especially when it comes to Leonard, and even she feels, ‘How much longer are we going to go back and forth on this? Let’s just jump in and hope for the best.’”
We ultimately think that the producers are making the right move here without a doubt when it comes to the long-term creative of the show. This is something we didn’t expect, and while this may not be on paper the most romantic wedding in the world, this shakes things up and differentiates it from what Howard and Bernadette had.
