‘NCIS’ season 13 spoilers: What is Michael Weatherly excited for?
If you are waiting eagerly for new “NCIS” episodes to air, you can at least rejoice that as of this writing, we are only 30 days away! The series is starting up on CBS Tuesday, September 21, and for a certain Tony DiNozzo, there is an exciting stretch of episodes ahead. He could be in a new position with the team as a result of what happened with Gibbs at the conclusion of season 12. He may to take charge more in the field, and his way of doing things could certainly clash with that of his boss.
We’re merely speculating here on some character dynamics, but what we can tell you is that Michael Weatherly, more so than one specific event, is excited for season 13 thanks to it being almost a great unknown. In a recent interview with TV Fanatic, he thoughtfully explained his feelings on the upcoming episodes with the following:
“Season 13, to me, is now about turning the soil over, digging up stuff and, for the first time ever in the run of my time on the show, I have no idea how it’s going to end. I’m always very glib about this but I honestly have no idea what happens.”
By the time we make it to the midway point of the season, it’s very possible that this will change, but for now it is pretty interesting. The only information that is 100% confirmed right now about season 13 is that Gibbs will be in recovery, we’ll see Tony off to China in the early going, and that Jon Cryer is going to play a Navy surgeon. Everything from there on out is still in the ether.

The way they keep saying that there is a feud between tony and gibbs, and that tony is at odds with the team makes it sound like maybe they are pushing Michael Weatherly out. Tony is my favorite character, I hope he gets more screen time. I love all the episodes with Michael. Does anyone else feel like that?

Yes. But most Tony fans have either given up or are constantly disappointed viewers who (unrealistically) hang on to the hope of seeing something akin to Bellasario’s portrayal of DiNozzo return. The way they’ve written Weatherly’s character for many seasons now it does seem like they are trying to get rid of him by making him so unlikable that his fans will hate him as much as tptb seem to. If they do turn him into the bad guy this season and fire him in disgrace or some insulting storyline like that, I’ll never watch again. Harmon fans will tell you that Harmon has always been the big and only featured star but really, in the first four years (before Harmon ousted Bellasario, became a producer, ousted Brennan, installed his BFF Glasberg, and then became an executive producer) the show actually featured stories that highlighted the impressive skills and virtues and flattering story lines about ALL the team members. Tony was a very close second to Gibbs’s dominance and was actually portrayed as possessing needed skills that Gibbs did not. That ended after season four. By season 12 we saw a completely inconsequential Tony as well as a continuance of writing him as a clueless joke. With the shift in power NCIS has gradually become the Gibbs show, but it wasn’t always – not back when the show was actually good.

You do all know that Mark Harmon is the STAR of this show, right? That is why he has the LEAD part. See the theme here? The show was made for HIM. If the rest the actors weren’t happy with the way things are, they would have left by now. I am excited for this year as well and I love that Michael Weatherly is getting more time. In the last year, he has started his own production company and had a baby. Maybe he asked for a lighter schedule to accommodate these things. We will never know unless he speaks out and directly says something. Enjoy the show or not, but if you don’t have anything good to say, comment somewhere else.

Can’t believe he’s excited! Since blondie agent joined the show NCIS has become a Mark Harmon travesty! He thinks he’s the God of TV and viewers love all the crap he produces! CBS jumped the shark when they gave him power over the show! If I was Weatherly I’d be excited for this farce to end soon!

You do know that Mark is only one of a few executive producers right? You do know that Mark doesn’t write the scripts right? You do know that Mark doesn’t decide who’s casted and who’s not right? He had no influence over ‘Blondie’ being casted, that’s up to other people in charge of the show. Mark in fact saved the show. Sasha Alexander left because of Bellisario’s way of running the show. The entire cast is thankful to Mark, they picked him to be their representator. Obviously, you’re just another Harmon hater for no reason except for jealousy. And Weatherly is excited, if you like it or not. If you don’t like the show anymore now or have so many issues with it or the characters then change the channel and stop accusing hard working people like Weatherly of being liars. You’re disrespectful torwards him because he is not doing what you want him to do, he doesn’t behave like you want him to do. That is your problem, not his. Harmon’s power over the show isn’t at huge as people (aka haters) claim to be. But hey, continue to give him credit for things he has nothing to do with. I feel sorry for you.

Harmon is the only actor who has shown two executive producers the door so I think that there is some justification in thinking that he wields a lot of power. I hope that Weatherly gets to do more than last season, like playing an barely significant supporting role in another season long GIbbs angst fest. I’d love to see a story that focuses on Tony where he is not the evening’s joke or shoring up some other character’s drama. He was used that way for years with Ziva and now it seems Gibbs is the only character that tptb care to offer stories about. I don’t hate Gibbs, but I’d like to see someone else get drama instead of everything always having to be about Gibbs’s next big drama or danger. Tony is the main reason I watch the show and they haven’t sent much of anything his way for a really long time. His role was diminished when Don Bellasario was shown the door and now with Glasberg and his unrelenting Gibbs obsession, Tony barely seems to matter at all.

There’s no justification. Harmon did what was best for the cast and crew, for the show. And it wasn’t him directly who showed the doors to anyone. I’m not going to explain such a huge process now, but there’s a lot of people, time and conversations involved. Not just one person.
As for the characters and the curse of the show, I disagree a lot. But that’s ok. But I find it quite interesting that you use exact the same words in the same order as a couple of other people…. it’s telling.

If you’re implying that I’m double posting using some other name, all I can say is that you are wrong. Now I don’t for a minute expect you to open your mind enough to admit that you might be accusing falsely, but you are. The truth of the matter is that many Tony fans feel the way I do, and many NCIS fans are becoming tired of the Gibbs show even though Harmon fans are in hoggie heaven. Some fans also see a fairly suspicious coincidence of Harmon issuing ultimatums to rid the cast of the Weatherly/DiNozzo loving Bellasario, his ousting, and the emergence of idiot Tony, to Glasberg’s rise to power coinciding with an even less significant Tony and the all Gibbs/all the time current agenda.

I was more thinking that you just copied the text from someone else but whatever. If that was offending to you, I apologize. To think I’m smart minded is not nice either but I don’t care. I’m not a Harmon/Gibbs fan but Harmon is the big star of the show and Gibbs is the main character, the leader. And again: Harmon didn’t hire Glasberg, Harmon doesn’t write the scripts, he’s not deciding over storylines or whatever. The entire cast is known to be able to walk to the writers in case they don’t like something. If Weatherly would have that many huge issues as certain people claim to he wouldn’t be there anymore. You and others, in my humble little opinion, are just jumping on the trending train of bashing Harmon for everything you personally are not happy with and that is wrong. A lot of things on the show are also happening due to improvising – as stated especially by Weatherly numerous times. Now tell me again, how it’s all Harmon’s fault.
I know, he made sure that the cast gets their scripts right in time so they can be prepared, he made sure that the cast doesn’t have to work up to 20-21 hours a day to have time for themselves and their families. That’s obviously a huge crime he has commited. I wonder why the cast loves him for that. Harmon wanted – back then in the name of the cast and crew – a different way of working on the show, the network decided to fire Bellisario/he decided to go. It’s very telling that cast members have been celebrating Bellisario’s birthday recently given that so many people imply there’s bad blood.
To me, you’re one of the Harmon haters and I honestly don’t care if you are or not. What you are saying about him is rude and so far away from the truth but I’ve seen in the past years that many people just read/see what they want to. Goodbye
