‘America’s Got Talent’ results: Did ‘Dunkin’ Save’ help Samantha Johnson, Alondra Santos, The Gentlemen?

AGTAfter a 24-hour wait, the “America’s Got Talent” results show arrived Wednesday with some big expectations for drama … and a repeat of a twist from last year, which saved some acts in jeopardy from going home thanks to a live vote. While it screws over viewers on the West Coast without a doubt, there is still some more drama that comes out of this than a standard results show. At least it creates an incentive for some viewers to watch live, which the majority of the time just isn’t there with these filler-stuffed shows.

One thing that is very different in 2015 is that rather than the show implementing the Snapple Save … it’s now the Dunkin’ Save. That’s the only difference. (Yes, groan over that name; it’s quite awful since at least Snapple Save rolled off the tongue well.) This time around, Alondra Santos, Samantha Johnson, and The Gentlemen were the ones in need of your help. Of this group, we’d take Alonda and Samantha over The Gentlemen. Ultimately, we were rather surprised that Samantha is even in this spot, especially since she performed last on the night.

What happened? We feel like America’s love of Piff the Magic Dragon likely kept him from being in jeopardy, and this is not the age of singers doing incredible on the show anymore. Three years ago Samantha would’ve been right through.

Piff was the first act confirmed safe tonight, and following him we also had good news for Benton Blount. None of this comes as a surprise. After a performance from Mat Franco, we eventually saw Siro-A take another spot. Once again, no shock. Add to that Paul Zerdin and Drew Lynch.

The Dunkin’ Save went to Samantha (of course), and then the judges had to decide between the two young acts. The clear pick here was Alondra to us, and the judges agreed! While we would’ve preferred an acrobatic act in the final spot tonight over Alondra (who was good but not great), we are pretty satisfied with this field as a whole.
