‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 spoilers: Andrew Lincoln, Melissa McBride on character romances
Before you start to freak out here that we’re seeing Rick and Carol hook up on the next season of “The Walking Dead,” that’s not exactly what we are talking about with this article. Instead, we’re speaking a little bit more here about getting the chance to see what happens next for Rick and Jessie, and also the long-coveted potential couple that is Daryl and Carol.
Let’s start here with Rick, who may be changing somewhat in Alexandria, and much of it could be courtesy of Jessie. It has been a while since Lori’s death, and as Andrew Lincoln told TVLine at San Diego Comic-Con, it may actually be time for his character to get out there once again and consider romance:
“One of the great things about playing him is that each season, we’re exploring different parts … We’re a part of our environment. He’s been restraining himself towards the end of last season to be a part of this community, and certainly Jessie is one of the reasons why he changes. He softens, and starts to believe that this is a viable vulnerable. The great thing about playing him is that he is brutal, but there is compassion within him.”
As for Daryl and Carol, Melissa McBride was noncommittal on their future; however, she did make it clear (as she has often done) that a connection is there:
“They obviously have an incredible connection [and] bond they’ve shared since the first season. I think the first encounter between the two of them we saw as viewers, there is something interesting going on. I think both of them coming from an abusive past, having an abuser over them, and coming into their own forced by the circumstances of the Apocalypse … I think they understand each other. That will always be there. They lean on each other.”
We know that “The Walking Dead” is not a romance, but we feel like at this point Daryl and Carol could get together, and it would not be seen as the show just providing ‘shipper bait. We’ve seen the connection form, and the moment at this point feels earned.

I’m really excited for season 6. I don’t see the Jessie/Rick thing lasting long but they are obviously doing it to some degree if the last few episodes of season 5 are any indication, unfortunately.
But I’m with you, I’d be happy to see Caryl (and Richonne eventually too). I think those relationships are both quite unique and beautiful and I think they’d both be a nice complement the show. And judging by the way they write for both, you know it wouldn’t turn into a romantic love fest with either of them, rather a nice subtlety added in the background of episodes.
(Sorry for feeding the troll on your article, btw, Matt. I should know better by now.)

Jesus, where the hell are the fish. There’s some heavy trolling going on here. Did they get paid extra to do that. Looks like they used really good bait because they caught some doozies. The season 6 premiere should be titled “Fish Fry.” ? OMG!

Oh, look. It’s Chandra back again with one of her oh-so-“witty” comments because she doesn’t like the author’s opinion.
Color me shocked.

You must have been an A++ student in ASSumption & STUPIDity. I’m not Chandra. But you and your little small minded group of haters can twirl on it if it pisses you off that much. Looking forward to season 6 slapping you little fan girls in the face. You’ll have no one to blame but yourselves.

Strike a nerve, did I?
Ok, I’ll go and “twirl on it” whatever that means.
Btw, you’re not the only one looking forward to season six. Not. At. All.

Struck an idiot, did I? How does that pea sized brain of yours generate enough power to walk? Are you able to feed yourself or use a haybag?

I agree. Though the show isn’t romantic, I don’t think seeing Carol and Daryl making it official as a couple means it will define it as one. That relationship has been given so much natural build up since the very start that like you said, it feels earned.

Def see the potential of Caryl this season. The writers tend to surprise us…I would be delighted but I could also see a Carol/Morgan coupling. I am a long professed Caryler…just preparing myself for the writers pulling a fast one. I agree, after the banishment a Carrick hookup would implode the fandom. I love that Rick and Carol have reunited and respect one another, however, not ready to see that…always remember!!!

Season 6 looks to be good with Morgan Wolves Dwight and the Saviors all making appearances. The Rick and Jessie stuff is crap and I wish the writers hadn’t made Rick into a Shane clone.
On the shipping Rick and Carol hooking up would cause the fandom to implode on itself. As a non shipper I can see the appeal of Caryl and Richonne. All 4 actors have great chemistry. So if they hook up they hook up.
