Breaking: ‘Hannibal’ canceled by NBC after three seasons

Hannibal -Hannibal” fans, this news especially leaves us with a terrible taste in our mouths. Today, it was announced in rather unexpected fashion that the third season of the show is going to be its last at NBC. This makes us tremendously sad, mostly because this was one of the most well-acted, daring dramas ever to be put out on broadcast television.

While the series from Bryan Fuller may be stunning in every sense of the word, the real problem here is mostly the ratings. It just couldn’t generate big numbers, and this season it has fallen to new lows the past two episodes. While some thought it would recover without the NBA Finals on, it just didn’t.

In a statement, Fuller had the following to say:

“NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers … [NBC president] Jen Salke and her team have been fantastic partners and creatively supportive beyond measure.

“Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”

Does this mean that the show could find a home elsewhere? It’s possible, and that is something that we are going to get into a little bit more over the course of the next hour or so. Stay tuned for a little more reaction at the link here. We are of course going to continue covering the show as long as it is around.
