‘Dancing with the Stars’ 20 review: Noah Galloway, Riker Lynch, Rumer Willis, and trio dances

Noah -Tonight, “Dancing with the Stars” is airing more than just your average show, mostly for the simple reason than that there are going to be two separate performances for each dancer. Not only are they each going to be taking on a solo routine, but at the same time there will also be a trio featuring another pro dancer coming in and joining in on some of the fun.

One other thing that is a little bit different about the show this week? Thanks to the return of results shows to Tuesday night, there is not going to be anything in the way of traditional results. Two dancers will be sent home tomorrow, and there is no real reason to worry about what happens tonight. In other words, sit back and enjoy the show! We’re going to be giving some further impressions of some of the performers as time passes.

Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess, tango – We begin with Noah, hoping to carry momentum over from last week. It was not nearly as successful for him as he probably  wanted it to be. These sort of dances that force him into hold show off that he can at times appear wooden when he dances. Score: 31.

Chris Soules and Witney Carson, contemporary – While this was not perfect by any means, it was lyrical and far and away better than anything he did at the start of the season. His best dance by far. Score: 34.

Riker Lynch and Allison Holker, Viennese waltz – This was all sorts of wonderful. Is there really any question now that Riker is going to be going to the finale? Lyrical and imaginative. Great choreography by Allison. Score: 39.

Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson, contemporary – One of the better routines that we’ve seen from Robert, even if we’re not going to tell you that it was particularly revolutionary. He did kiss his partner like so many wanted, and it feels like that was a part of the grade. Score: 33.

Nastia Liukin and Sasha Farber, paso doble – This dance was decent, but a little odd. Does anyone else find it weird how Derek Hough watches over all of their routines like a hawk at this point? We know he wants to be involved, but still. Score: 36.

Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy, rumba – The best solo dance of the night. It was emotional, and also proof that you don’t need to throw a billion things onto the floor in order to do something that is elegant and powerful. Score 40.

We’re not going to say too much about some of the trio dances, though we will add here that they made it very clear that both Robert and Chris seriously struggled with this. While Noah has some weaker dancers, he should stay for at least another week. Meanwhile, did Nastia have a slight advantage given that she has been working with Sasha and Derek for weeks? She joined Rumer in the perfect-score club with this.
