‘Blue Bloods’ season 6: Renewal expectations, more for Tom Selleck – Donnie Wahlberg series

Blue Bloods season 5Tonight, “Blue Bloods” is set to conclude its fifth season on CBS, but is this going to be the end of the series by any means? We would not count on that, and for a variety of different reasons.

While the network has not officially renewed the majority of their long-running programming, it feels somewhat hard-pressed to think of a show you could jam into the Friday night timeslot at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, and expect it to get anywhere close to the same number of total viewers. Sure, the 18-49 demographic is not great, but it consistently competes if not beats “Hawaii Five-0” and at times “The Amazing Race.” It also has been the most-watched show on Fridays for the majority of the time that it has been on the air. Last week was the first time all season it lost that title, and only because of the Diane Sawyer – Bruce Jenner interview.

One other thing to remember here is that for the majority of network shows, actors are contracted to do six seasons. Therefore, there is no reason to think that any of these people would suddenly not be available here after being so for all of the past five years. We know that Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck have other projects, but they’ve become masters at scheduling as of late.

We imagine that you will hear the news about a renewal at some point over the next week and a half, prior to the CBS upfront presentation. We know that there are certainly more stories here to tell, especially as the police are being put under more and more of a spotlight in society.
