‘The Flash’ episode 17 preview: Series boss on ‘Tricksters,’ Mark Hamill appearance

Hamill -While we have no idea yet as to whether or not Tuesday night’s new episode of “The Flash” entitled “Tricksters” is going to be something special, we at least know this: Even without knowing about its long-term implications, it is easy to be stoked just due to Mark Hamill’s name being in the credits. He’s a genre icon, and few men play crazy better then he does!

In the video below, you get a general sense from executive producer Andrew Kreisberg of how thrilled he was to have this episode happen, and that Hamill was willing to reprise the role that he played in a couple of episodes of the “Flash” series all the way back in 1991. There’s also a sense in here of the relationship between Hamill’s Trickster, who has been imprisoned for 20 years, and the man posing as the Trickster in the present day Central City: He’s not a fan. It’s a pride and an ego thing for him. (To us, it seems like the new Trickster sending in bombs on parachutes is still pretty darn terrifying.)

It’s obviously been pointed out in some YouTube comments on this video already, but it is impossible to escape the discussion of the similarities between the Trickster and the Joker, given that Hamill voiced the character in “Batman: The Animated Series” and some of the recent video games. We just hope that viewers understand the history here a little, and that aspects of his performance as the Batman villain likely came from his work on the original “Flash,” and not the other way around. There are some other differences between the two characters, as well; the Trickster has a name and a backstory, and there are some strategic elements of him that are actually more in line with the Riddler.

We expect this to be a different sort of “Flash” episode, and we’re fine with that. We just want it to be entertaining.
