‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: The wheels come off in new promo

Dany -We’re not going to sit here and pretend that HBO is cramming a ton of new footage into their latest “Game of Thrones” promo, mostly because they didn’t. Most of this all-new clip, led by Danaerys (Emilia Clarke) and her famous “I’m going to break the wheel” speech, is something that you have seen and heard already.

Still, this new promo is awesome, mostly likely because it does give you a sense of the broad, epic scope the show is going for now. This is what happens when you actually have a budget, people! You can create some incredible worlds that look realistic, intimidating, and well-suited for these gritty characters. You’ve got a battle sequence in here, an army, and of course some chaos in Meereen at the same time.

What we also love specifically here is the editing of Dany in here almost as a villain, even if she is not entirely. We know her for the most part to be heroic, based mostly on her status as a liberator to slaves; yet, we cannot claim that being a humanitarian and a conqueror are remotely similar. What she has created a greater-good scenario in her cities, but it does still come at the expense of some. Dany is almost a utilitarian in a way. She’s skilled, but not a strategist. Maybe this is how Tyrion can come into play.

At the moment, it does feel like the time is ripe for the wheels to come off for the other famed families in Westeros. Tywin Lannister is dead, Joffrey was dead long before him, and what power does Cersei have now that Tommen is growing closer to Margaery? Meanwhile, the Stark family could not be spread any more thin if you tried, and while Stannis Baratheon is gaining power, he’s still in the north. King’s Landing is exposed, and all she needs are the means, the plans, and a dragon willing to actually listen to her commands.
