Ratings: ‘Hart of Dixie’ season 4 steady; ‘The Amazing Race 26’ up slightly

Hart of Dixie -We’re not sure at this point how much we should be analyzing “Hart of Dixie” ratings at this point. We admire the consistency of the show, but at the same time, we wonder whether or not it matters significantly to The CW.

We talked briefly last night about some tweets that may suggest that the show is over; the fat lady hasn’t sung yet, so with that logic, there is still a tiny bit of hope (with an emphasis on “tiny”). Last night’s “61 Candles” scored a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It was only slightly worse than “Glee” (0.6), but that show is for sure ending, and with quite possibly the biggest whimper in the history of the big 4 television networks. Even if we say farewell to BlueBell, Alabama this season, at least the show is doing so with some dignity and consistent numbers. This number may be low, but it is far from unheard of on The CW, where “Reign” also consistently draws a similar number.

As for another show in serious danger, “The Amazing Race” added a tenth to its rating this week to finish with a 1.2. This is hardly a rating to write home about for CBS, but we’ve at least seen worse. As someone who has watched the race for well over a decade, we don’t want to see it end. In our head, the ideal worst-case scenario would be for it to hit a Pit Stop for a while, be off the air for a few years, and then come back down the road when there could be an interest in the format again. This strikes us something that could work as a revival down the road. If it wasn’t for the Canadian version airing in the summer, it’d also work there.

As for some other shows, “Shark Tank” (1.9) won the night in the demo, while “Blue Bloods” (1.4) won the night with more than 11 million viewers. While the Tom Selleck show has not been renewed, it feels very likely that we will be seeing it again.
