‘Saturday Night Live’ books ‘Thor’ star Chris Hemsworth, Zac Brown Band

SNL -What happens when you combine an Australian actor-turned-superhero and a country music group? Apparently, you get the upcoming March 7 episode of “Saturday Night Live.”

Chris Hemsworth has been booked to host this episode, which comes after Dakota Johnson of “Fifty Shades of Grey” is hosting the show this weekend. Zac Brown Band is the musical guest, and this is the inaugural appearance for both parties on the show. We do like the selection of Hemsworth, though we’re not entirely sure why this was the time for him to take the reigns as host over any other moment. Is he promoting anything? Mostly, we’re pleased by this since he has shown himself to have a good sense of humor over the years, and is game for mocking himself. There will almost surely be at least one superhero parody in here.

What we have the most sympathy for with both Chris and Dakota is that they are following the enormous 40th anniversary special, and there is almost no way to match that sort of hype. With that in mind, they basically need to rely more on great ideas from the writers and game performances than celebrity cameos or memorable characters. They have to create their own classics now.

Hemsworth will be seen in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” later this year, and the question that we wonder now is if Robert Downey Jr, who was famously a brief part of the show for one season, could make a cameo here. It would be a nice way to spoof Rolling Stone recently naming him the worst cast member in the history of the show.
