‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 5, episode 9 review: Max faces a rival, Danny’s tree issues

Hawaii Five-0 -With the holidays upon us it was no surprise that tonight’s episode of “Hawaii Five-0” had some nice Christmas moments with some our favorite characters.

Danny wants to get a tree for Grace, but every lot is sold out and the ones that are left are crazy expensive… so what’s the solution? Steve goes on a protected reserve and cuts a tree down for him… making him upset that he’s now part of a crime. Danny really wants to make Christmas special for Grace since this is the first year that Grace may not really believe in Santa anymore and it’s hitting him harder then he thought.

We don’t always get enough story involving Max, so when we do we are always happy to have it. Tonight he is facing off against a rival named Sunjeet – someone that really rubs him the wrong way. So what’s the problem between these two? Max reveals that these two men had a fall out over a woman.

Later we hear the whole story: Sunjeet betrayed Max when Sanjeet ended up getting a Star Trek ‘Janice’ action figure from an auction and it was one that Max needed to complete his collection. Sunjeet was equally as angry when Max told all of their mutual friends only one side of the story and destroyed all of Sunjeet friendships. Max ends up apologizing to Sunjeet for destroying all of his friendships and these two lab geeks end up finding a way to work together to help solve the case of the week.

We love Max, so tonight’s episode was a lot of fun for us. Also, hearing National Lampoo’s “Holiday Road” song playing while Danny and Steve drove down the highway with a stolen Christmas tree on the roof of the car will have us smiling for days. Episode grade: B+
