ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 4, episode 4 review: When Emily Thorne met David Clarke (again)

Emily -In a way, there were no surprises going into Sunday night’s new “Revenge” episode, mostly because we knew going into it that Emily Thorne was going to see David Clarke in person for the first time in well over a decade.

The real hype in this episode was seeing what was going to happen with Emily from here on out. “Meteor” was a heck of a powerful episode, and quite possible the series’ best since the very beginning. Just the look on Emily’s face was enough when she saw David in a police lineup after learning that he had been arrested for shoplifting.

Where does Emily go from here? That is something she was desperate to figure out. Most of the episode was spent with her trying to get a face-to-face meeting with the guy, but she was getting blocked time and time again by the police process, which includes his somewhat-annoying partner Ben.

What this episode did so well was having everyone find out about David at different times, which includes everyone from Daniel to Nolan to Jack. They all had their moment to take in the news, and react to it in different ways.

The terrible thing for Emily was that she also learned one other thing in the closing minutes, and that was that she was not the first person to get to David. Instead, that was Victoria, and the sight of him in the closing seconds with her and Charlotte was rather chilling.

This episode did have its cheese, including Daniel’s new “business partner” and all of the soapy stuff there. In the end, though, the pay-off from David being alive was so good, we almost didn’t care about anything else. Easily the best “Revenge” episode since season 1. Grade: A.
