‘Doctor Who’ season 8, episode 8 preview: Peter Capaldi in ‘Mummy on the Orient Express’
We admit that when we first saw the official details for tonight’s “Doctor Who” episode entitled “Kill the Moon,” we were not particularly thrilled with what we saw. While we enjoy journeys to the Moon, we’re not a fan of spider-monsters. This in itself hampered our enjoyment to a certain degree.
Next week, however, we have an episode that we are legitimately excited for, perhaps more so than any other this season just in terms of fun. The title here is entitled “Mummy on the Orient Express,” and the synopsis below makes this sound like both a classic train-heist movie coupled with the story of Medusa:
“The Doctor and Clara are on the most beautiful train in history speeding among the stars of the future. But a deadly creature is stalking the passengers. Once you see the horrifying Mummy you only have 66 seconds to live. No exceptions, no reprieve. As the Doctor races against the clock Clara sees him at his deadliest and most ruthless. Will he work out how to defeat the Mummy? Start the clock!”
The one thing you have to wonder and almost hope for when it comes to Peter Capaldi’s character is this: If he can manipulate space and time, will he be able to expand these 66 seconds into something substantial enough to make real progress, and defeat this monster? Time will tell, and we will luckily have to wait only an episode to find out.
Another reason to be excited? No spiders. We are curious if it will be possible, though, for The Doctor and Clara to heal their rift. Jenna Coleman is not a major part of the promo below.
