‘Mistresses’ season 3 official; ABC renews drama despite lower ratings

Mistresses -Good news for “Mistresses” fans today; you no longer have to worry about whether or not the show is coming back.

Today, ABC confirmed that the drama, which stars Alyssa Milano and others, will be back for another season airing in 2015. This was hardly a guaranteed renewal, given that the ratings were low mostly throughout the show’s second season, and while not a huge decline from 2013, there was still enough of one that it was noticeable.

One of the biggest reasons we feel like the show managed to come back is because the producers basically put ABC in a position where they had to come back. If the decision had gone the other way and the network canceled it, can you imagine the rage that would have come from the fans? Basically every story was a cliffhanger, with the biggest one being what Joss’ big decision is going to do to Savi moving forward.

We don’t know necessarily what the show’s long-term future will be, but if season 3 is the end, we hope that there is a little more of proper ending installed to it. We’ve said it before, we do feel like there is only so long that you can continue to make these stories juicy and interesting, and have the title of the show still apply … unless of course you just say “screw it” and throw the show into full-on soap opera territory.
