ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4 spoilers: A new struggle for Bellamy Young’s Mellie?

Almost from the very beginning of “Scandal,” the Mellie Grant character has received plenty of attention from the American people, and understandably so. This is a woman who has been forced to deal with her husband’s infidelity, or at least constant reports about it. To make matters worse, she has struggled privately with keeping what happened between her and Fitz’s own father a secret for so many years. No character has arguably gone through more, and over a longer period of time.

For Mellie, the sad news that we have to report right now is that the struggle seems to be very far from over. We shared with you recently the episode title for “State of the Union,” and now the short synopsis below (via SpoilerTV) gives you a little bit of further insight into what you can expect:

“Cyrus hopes to recruit an influential power couple (Mary McCormack and Josh Randall) during preparations for the State of the Union; Mellie’s struggle gets the nation’s attention.”

We do hope that eventually, Mellie finds a way to have a happy ending, but it doesn’t feel like this is something that is destined to be coming her way anytime soon. Just take a minute to remind yourself of everything that she is going to have to go through first, which includes still supporting her husband, and handling the idea of Olivia Pope still being around. Even though she may not have been around during most of the time jump between seasons, this is not a woman who ever seems to disappear forever.
