‘MasterChef’ season 5, episode 13 review: Did Daniel, Cutter, Jaimee struggle with souffles?
“MasterChef” continues to find a way to entertain us season after season, and probably the most remarkable part of it is that they are able to do so within the confines of a single kitchen.
It certainly may sound crazy, but we much prefer these episodes than the ones out in the field. We love creativity, and the team challenge allowed for that with getting to work on a variety of chicken. Also, great entertainment. Who doesn’t want to see Leslie “break” a challenge by doing nothing other than letting Elizabeth run free? These two were the clear winners, and in a tough decision, Daniel & Jaimee were sent into the Pressure Test against Willie & Cutter, who were both pretty awful in creating some sort of chicken hodgepodge.
This is what made this episode so strong, as neither Daniel nor Jaimee did enough to get themselves safe in the Pressure Test. It’s not like they were screwed, either; they had two separate opportunities to create an egg dish that would allow them to avoid doing a souffle, and they still couldn’t pull that out. We find it fully that we don’t feel either one of them was the worst cook in the competition, but the two were just the worst at the wrong time. With that being said, we don’t feel like either one of them was going to win the competition. They’ve at times both been a little lost in the editing shuffle.
So who stayed, and who went home? Jaimee stayed, and Daniel left … and it seemingly all came down to salt. We’re going to miss him. He brought great drama between him and Leslie, and he seems like a cool dude with his love of Japanese arcade games. Grade: B+.
